20 years later, director Danic Champoux remembers.
As a young man who just voted for the first time ever, deeply convinced of the importance of the separatist cause , Danic hits the road with his old Ford pickup truck to reconnect with former friends and acquaintances. Accompanied by his British bulldog Bang Bang, he’ll ask them questions regarding the 20 years gone by. In 1995, everyone agreed there needed to be a second referendum in the near future. And yet, they had already been making their way to the polls for the past 20 years. Today, it is said that the men and women of the generation who lived through the 1995 referendum have massively abandoned the separatist bandwagon. Young people who are today of the same age as these people were in 1995 now mostly vote liberal, which would have been inconceivable 20 years ago. Danic feels blue. He remembers the referendum night, of how they all foresaw the future back then. Perhaps not all is lost.
Ça fait 20 ans was produced by URBANIA, and was broadcast on October 29th, 2015, during the Grand Reportages d’ICI RDI.
